Responding to an inquiry by Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts, The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has commented on the concerns related to the use of “triclosan” in antibacterial soaps, toothpastes, body washes and other personal care products. The FDA stated that based on existing scientific evidence, there is no need to change consumer use of products containing triclosan. The FDA found that triclosan provides a clear benefit, but believe it’s still an open question as to whether this ingredient provides any significant benefits over washing with regular soap and water.
